BACKGROUND

On October 6th Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis visited Calgary for the premier of the documentary This Changes Everything, based off Kline’s book of the same name. Before the screening the Arusha Centre hosted a workshop session with stake holders from Calgary, including members from the City of Calgary, faith groups, environmental organizations and community members. The workshop was focused on discussing ways Alberta can shift to an economy that is not dependent on volatile oil prices, help low-income individuals and respect the rights of indigenous people.

Workshop participants heard Avi and Naomi speak about their current initiatives and answer some questions from the crowd. Participants also got a chance to discuss individual and collective actions Albertans can take to move towards a sustainable future.

Later that day the Globe Cinema hosted the Calgary premier of This Changes Everything. The theatre was sold out and audience members were able to hear presentations both before and after the screening from community members.

The screening included performances and an opening ceremony.
