Take Action Grants is a community-based funding program supported by The Calgary Foundation and Calgary Dollars. Grants are awarded in both federal dollars and Calgary Dollars to grassroots projects that support and promote social and environmental justice. And YOU, the people in the community, can vote and help decide if the project should be supported!
This month’s grant application is for Youthink Conference. They are requesting $1,000 and C$1000. The goal of the conference is to empower and unite Calgary youth. During the two-day conference, delegates will participate in leadership workshops and confidence building activities. There are additional workshops discussing the topics of environmental sustainability, social entrepreneurship, power of positive thought and values & visions. Students also receive the opportunity to network amongst other students and with their team leader (post-secondary volunteer) throughout the course of the conference. A networking dinner will serve an additional platform for expanding on networking skills while connecting them to organizations that provide volunteering, post-secondary and career opportunities. To conclude the conference, there is an implementation session where delegates set short and long term goals for themselves while implementing what they have learned throughout the two days. Our hope is that the delegates will utilize the tools we have provided them as they will be fully capable of taking on the leadership roles in their schools and communities. We hope delegates realize a change they desire to make in either themselves or in their communities that is reflected in the goals they create for themselves. In addition, our team leaders will lend their experiences and maintain an ongoing mentor-delegate relationship to provide support as the students reach the goals they have set for themselves.
