Chumpi Documentary on Peru & Talisman New in Library

Talisman Energy is currently doing an oil and gas exploration project along the border of Peru and Ecuador.

This area is one of the most biodiverse places on earth and is home to an indigenous group called the Achuar.
The Achuar people are opposed to the oil and gas exploration. Drilling had previously occurred on the Eastern Achuar territory. Highly toxic substances were dumped in the water and children and adults in the area were found to have high levels of lead in their blood. There is currently a campaign on Amazon Watch to halt this exploration.
Chumpi is a movie that explores the lives of the Achuar people. The Achuar people’s ways of life is completely integrated with their environment. The Achuar hunt, fish and raise crops to survive and their spiritual and emotional living also center around the nature around them.

Chumpi is now available at the Arusha Centre library and there are English subtitles.
