April 28th 2011 National Day of Mourning

Shout out of thanks to the CDLC (Calgary & District Labour Council) for organizing the memorial at noon today at City Hall. The National Day of Mourning is to honour those that have died, or were injured on the job. Artivist Melissa Centofanti presented the Arusha wreath. The wreath pictured here was fashioned with 136 “worker bees”. One bee to represent each death in Alberta in 2010. Mother nature designed Worker Bees to literally work themselves to death. No person should have to die for the work that they have chosen. Let’s keep lobbying to improve conditions and regulations. Workers, corporations and government need to work together to improve the situation.
