Author James Laxer Visits Calgary

James Laxer, pictured with Arusha staff Gerald Wheatley while holding his Calgary Dollars, visited The Arusha Centre this week to promote his new book “Beyond the Bubble: Imagining a New Canadian Economy.

What should the new economy look like? “We need to do it from the ground up, just like Arusha is doing, not from some vision on high!”

In 1969, James Laxer was one of the founders of the Waffle Group, Canada’s largest New Left political movement. In 1971, at the age of 29, he ran second for the national leadership of the New Democratic Party. Since then Laxer has written 23 books on a wide range of social, political and international subjects. Currently Laxer is a political science professor at York University.
